Guide to migrating a Wordpress development site to a running live site
I have been looking for guidance on this for a while. This question is the nearest I have come to my case:
I don't have enough points to contribute to that, so I have started this question. I am not an expert, but I am quite experienced with WordPress.
The basic question is really simple. I have a live site and wanted to give it a complete overhaul. I migrated it to a development site with the same provider and started working on it. In the meantime, the other site is live, gets new posts, comments, etc. The new site is completely different to the old one, but I obviously want to keep blog posts. Finally, I forgot to change the database prefix on the development site to match the live site. Don't know if that is an issue or not.
I suppose the only thing that needs to be kept is the blog history. It is a fairly simple site based mainly on static pages plus the blog with no e-commerce, no external contributors, etc. Is the best way to do this to import the blogs from the live site to the development site and then import the entire site back to the live site? If so, do I back up everything first, delete the existing site and then import the development site, or does the import end up with only the new tables etc?
Hope that makes sense and I am in the right place.
