Is it safe to drink a hard cider with a corn chip type aftertaste, my buddy made it and gave me some. When you take a sip it tastes great but then you taste a weird "Frito" taste like a corn chip. It's not unbearable but is it safe? He also dissolved cinnamon hearts into it which he says backsweetened it. Could hfcs in the cinnamon hearts have something to do with the taste? I just want to know if …
I have recently made a batch of pale ale malt and willamette SmaSh, I used a BIAB setup and "no chill"-ed it in a cube over night. I'm overall pleased with the final prodect, however it has a distinct aftertaste I can only describe as "dusty". It should be noted that I could not squeeze the air completelty out of my cube, I left the beer in primery for about a week after fermantation was done(I wasn't sure), fermentaition temprature …
I’ve been making regular batches of pomegranate wine. The latest batch fermented faster than usual due to ambient heat increase. However the result has a salty taste. What would be the cause of that and how could I relive or mask that taste?
I generally find my homebrew wine (just from a regular kit) has a soapy kind of aftertaste. I'm wondering if this might be down to fermentation temperature or something, I'm taking as many precautions as possible sanitation-wise and folowing instructions to the letter
Every of 5 previous brews (lager, pilsner, pale ale, IPA) have had a somewhat bitter and malty aftertaste to them. It's not too off-putting (except the lager) but is clearly there, yet not present on your tongue until swallowed (mostly aftertaste). What would cause a beer to have this quality? 5G brews. All liquid malt extracts. Different hop variations. VERY clean during brewing. Water is grocery store spring+distilled. Sugar/powdered(?) for carbonation before bottling. Dark bottles in closet 70-78d. Most have …
TL;DR : My beer has an acetaminophen aftertaste, what could this be ? I brewed an espresso oatmeal Stout 4 months ago. It had a hard time carbonating and has an acrid/bitter (burnt? too much dark malt?) aftertaste. It mellowed a bit with time. To me, this aftertaste now resembles acetaminophen (without the coating, just the white stuff, which is pretty bitter). Recipe : https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/espresso-oatmeal-stout-3
I'm new to the world of homebrewing, having completed 2 batches. Both batches have been 'recipe in a box' kind of beers from Brewer's Best. The first was an Imperial Nut Brown Ale, and the second was an Irish Stout. In both cases, the beer was bottled for the carbonation process. The first beer was still flat after 3 weeks, and after agitating them and waiting an additional 2 weeks the carbonation was fine. The second was great (carbonation-wise) after …
I've been making mead for a while and there's something I can't quite resolve. Some batches are said to have a strange, solvent-like or "turpentiney" after-taste. Most people don't seem to notice it or care and I've only ever noticed anything once or twice (I myself have noticed a slightly odd after-taste a few times but I wouldn't have called it "turpentiney", it was very faint), but a couple people seem sensitive to it and notice it more often. I …
I planted my first rhizome this year to try my hand at hop growing. To my surprise the plant flourished and was ready to yield at least a half pound of hops. To my great sadness I awoke this morning to find that aphids had completely ravaged the entire plant. Next year what can be done to control them and not leave a residue that will end up in beer? I have read a little about the soap and water …
