Fermentation growing too fast for bin

I started fermenting my first batch of turbo cider yesterday (10/07/2022). I'm using this this 5L fermentation bucket but the foam has already creeping up to the lid. It's very hot in England right now, which is speeding up the brewing process. With the foam at the level it is only after 24 hours, I really think I need to pour my fermenting cider into a larger bin. Will this cause harm to the brew? Should I do something else …

Co2 regulator pressure vs flow

I'm researching on buying a pressure regulator to put on a co2 bottle. Now I'm finding "flow regulators" (I guess for aquarium) that give the output in litre/min. I am now wondering if it is technically the same to one that states the output in bar or psi. And if yes, can I just replace the manometer or is there a conversion formular from litre/min to bar? Edit: Because there might be different types, here an example of what I …

Best method for mango pulp-juice separation?

I am not sure whether this would be the best place to ask or some other group, but let’s try: Making mango wine I am currently blending fresh fruit and sieving the pulp with a thin filter (kitchen equipment, not sure of the exact size of the filter). I used to add water to the pulp to manage it better but that led to loss of sugar, flavor and acidity. After primary, sediment would be 1/3 of the initial volume. …

airtight bin for bulk grain

We are having a really hard time finding a truly airtight bin large enough to keep at least 50 lbs of bulk grain in. Does anyone have any suggestions? We keep our grains in the shed and want to keep out mice and bugs.

Alternative to stir plate for yeast starter (and erlenmeyer flask)

Looking at creating my first yeast starter for a DIPA recipe with on O.G. target of 1.085. For this O.G. Brewer's Friend is telling me I would need a 3L starter of an O.G. of 1.040 with a stir plate to hit my cell count (assuming yeast is 1 month old) (oh, I'll also be buying 2 packs of yeast). The yeast starters work far better with a stir plate, however, stir plates cost an absolute fortune and there's no …

Airlock Alternatives

Imagine that brew-day rolls around and you find yourself without an airlock for your carboy or bucket. What other things can you use in it's stead? Further imagine that you do not have the materials for a blow-off tube. Touch on infection risk and what to do if you also do not have a stopper. Inspiration for this question goes to WhatsBillDoing.

What material should I make my brew paddle with?

I've been using the cheap plastic spoon that you'll typically find at your local homebrew store. It's pretty terrible when it comes to agitating my mash tun. Heat + Resistance = Bent plastic spoon. I've been thinking about making my own wood paddle. I probably shouldn't laminate wood together, leeched glue compounds probably aren't the best for your health. So, I was thinking about just buying a piece of oak and using a router or jigsaw to shape it. What …

Is there a Grolsch flip-top bottle shortage?

This is a little off-topic to the process, but more about supplies for the process. I thought I could pick up some cheap, used, Grolsch bottles online, until I started looking at the prices. On Etsy and eBay, these used, empty bottles are going for almost the same price for a single bottle ($15.50 for a pair; $21 for three), as a new 4-pack ($7.20-9.50), with beer in them. When you add on the shipping, and the wait, it'd actually …

Brew In A Bag one-gallon batch?

I'd like to try homebrewing, and I've read a great deal about the process, but I will have more time than money (I'm about to graduate from college). It seems like most people buy a lot of equipment and then start with 5-gallon extract kits. The reasoning behind this seems to be that extract kits are easier and take less time to brew (and have fewer opportunities to make mistakes), and most recipes are calibrated for 5-gallon batches. However, I've …

Need recommendations on a Freezer to Kegarator Conversion

Built a bar with a concrete counter top. Already have the 3.5 inch hole for the beer Tap. I'm planning on converting a freezer into a Kegarator. Any suggestions on models ? Also, can we use a chest freezer on its side so it opens on the side instead of the top ? Is that possible ? something like this : https://www.danby.com/products/freezers/dcf035b1wm/ pls share any recommendations or thoughts ?

What's a good first equipment buy after a basic starter kit?

I bought the First-Time Brewer's Starter Kit from Midwest Supply and enjoyed the process quite a bit. While the kit has the essentials for extract brewing, I know there are lots of things I can get to make the process (and product) better. Since I'm not independently wealthy, though, I need to pick just one or two pieces of equipment now and build up my arsenal slowly. What are some of the best next equipment purchases that will give me …

Any supplies I should I have some "extra" of?

As a new home brewer, I've been reading up on posts regarding things that can go wrong during a brew and how to fix them. For example, if I have understood correctly, stuck fermentation may require extra yeast to get things going again. Now, Murphy's law dictates the local brew shop will be closed when/if this happens. I am thinking it might make sense to keep a couple packets of Safale 05 (seems to be a general option for the …

Wall sockets for Cornelius kegs line cleaning

I'm looking for a line cleaning socket for a Cornelius keg fitting. I've worked in the pub trade (UK) for more years than I care to remember so know how bars are set up and I am familiar with line cleaning etc. When I have performed line cleaning, there has always been a socket on the wall that I have connected the keg coupler too. does anyone know where I can find a wall socked for a Cornelius keg, ball …

48 quart rectangular cooler as an HLT?

I'm gathering equipment on the cheap to start all grain brewing and looking at options for an HLT. A rectangular 48 quart cooler is about half the price as the customary 10 gallon Igloo everyone uses on Youtube. Anyone ever used one of these for an HLT? How'd it work out for you?
