new CO2 leak at regulator connection

I had to exchange my first CO2 tank and when I went to connect the regulator to the new tank I am able to screw it on but there is still a leak from the connection not matter the tightness. Is this something that I can fix or is this a problem with the tank?

How do counter pressure bottle fill PET bottles with a stainless carbonation cap

I'm looking at purchasing a stainless steel carbonation cap. E.g. https://www.homebrewfinds.com/2018/12/hands-on-review-ferroday-stainless-steel-carbonation-cap-for-pet-bottles-draft-line-cleaning-builds.html If you do a Google search for "stainless carbonation cap" you can see them listed at lots of online brewing stores. Most of these online stores list the following uses for the cap: Carbonate Cleaning your beer lines Use it to counter pressure bottle fill PET bottles Numbers 1 and 2 make sense to me. However, number 3 is confusing me. How can you counter pressure fill a bottle …

How to carbonate and bottle non-alcoholic soda

For the last year, I've been making a lot of syrups. Usually I keep the syrups in the fridge and add carbonated water to it whenever I want to drink it. But now I'd like to make a bigger batch and bottle it in 200ml (~7oz) glass bottles, so I can hand them out to local bars to see if there's any interest my sodas. What would you guys advice concerning the carbonation? I see three options now, but they …

What possible reasons cause a (pale) beer to fail to carbonate in the bottle

tl;dr: Almost half of my pale beers have trouble carbonating in the bottle, being almost uncarbonated after 2 weeks I don't think I have ever had this issue with a dark ale or porter. Details I've been brewing for the better part of a year now, doing a weekly small batch brew. I've been brewing a mix of pale and darker ales/ porters. All of my beers use some protafloc for clarity All of my beers use some Clarity Ferm …

Any way to carbonate a keg without opening it and without a regulator?

I have a 19L corny keg full of NEIPA that I wanted to force carb and get drinking quickly. After cooling the keg to 6 degrees I gave it an initial blast of CO2 to 30 psi. As I was shaking the keg, I knocked over the tank and broke my only regulator. It's not easy to buy one where I live so I ordered a new regulator online, but it will take about a week to arrive. So now …

Not homebrewing, but I need help bottling for medical issues

I’m not home brewing anything but I recently got some swing top glass bottles with the idea that I could put my store bought sodas in them. I have many medical issues & one of them causes chronic nausea and vomiting so I always have the 2 liters of Sprite, 7up, and Ginger Ale on hand because they are the only ones that help a bit. I can only afford the 2L, the others are too expensive. I’ve tried to …

Carbonation Drops vs. Sugar?

I'm brewing my very first batch with an actual kit (I've used Mr. Beer before with decent results and wanted to do it right). I bought a recipe kit from Northern Brewer and I opted for the Cooper's Carbonation drops. But I see no one mention them here - or pretty much anywhere else. The beer (the XPA recipe) is on week 2 of fermentation and seems to be progressing nicely - the fermentation seems to have mostly stopped after …

Is one volume of Co2 one point of ABV?

So, I'm bottle conditioning. Went back to my high school days to compute the grams of sugar I need to add to get a specific volume of CO2 per gallon (because I do such small batches). What I'm wondering is, when I'm computing (however accurately) the volume of CO2 that's going to be produced for carbonation, can I say something about how many points ABV it will change? For example, what ABV does a 5% beer with enough sugar for …

How can I fill bottles from a keg and maintain pressure

I've been kegging for awhile now, but I still haven't managed to successfully fill bottles from my kegs without losing all pressure. I don't have a counter pressure beer filler or a Blichmann Beer gun, and for the moment I'd rather spend my beer-money on something else. The few times I've tried to fill a couple bottles I've done this: Chill the keg (well, already done) Chill the bottles Turn down the keg pressure to almost nothing, like 1-2 psi …

What causes "rush" carbonation when adding sugar?

I've just been playing with some treatments for an undercarbonated batch in bottles. The beer is slightly carbonated, it bubbles up a little when poured, just builds no head & dissipates instantly. I thought I'd try opening a couple of bottles & adding some carbonation drops, re-seal & see what happens after a week or two. I put 1 drop each in 2 bottles and 2 drops each in another 2 bottles. When the sugar was added to the beer, …

Flat beer after priming in a pressure barrel

Completed my first fermentation of home-brew bitter which finished at 2.5% alcohol after 2 weeks. Transferred the beer to a pressure barrel and added a level teaspoon of sugar per pint to start secondary fermentation along with extra pressure using a screw on CO2 "bomb" for a couple of seconds. After about a week ( probably longer that normal due to the fact that the barrel was in the loft where it was quite cold ), the beer started to …

Why does my beer have carbonation but no foam head?

I recently made a Belgium Ale, which was slow to start fermenting, but once it got going it finished fine. It cleared in a secondary and was bottled using 5oz of corn sugar for the 5 gallon batch. It's in the cellar which runs from to low to higher 60's depending on the time of day (a previous batch carbonated just fine in those conditions). After one week I open a test bottle, it has a little gas pop, tasted …

Can Bottles be Pasteurized Lying on Their Sides?

I want to bottle a sweet cider with carbonation. In every process to achieve this one step is to pasteurize the bottles in a pot of hot water, kept to a specific temperature after the bottles have the carbonation level you desire. Can you do this heating process on bottles laying on their sides? Can they be stacked, even with a rag between the layers?

Temperature fluctuations during carbonation/conditioning

I bottled my beer yesterday and based on some research I decided to place it near heater to keep warm temps, I got the one for this specific reason. The thing is that the heater is pretty old and it has kinda active and inactive phases, the ambient temp (I put thermometer just behind my bottles) can go below 20C/68F in inactive phase and above 25C/77F in the active one. So the temperature can change by up to 5C/9F during …

carbonating using a soda stream

Has anybody tried carbonating a couple of bottles a little early in the priming period - you know, just because guests are coming by and that batch is a little young in the bottle? I've heard it can be very messy, but if the pressure is released very slowly it can be done. Another question is how does it compare to bottle priming? Any experience before I paint the walls with beer?

When do you refrigerate your ginger beer?

The standard instructions are: Make your bug; brew your sweet ginger 'tea'; cool; add bug to your tea, and bottle for second fermentation; let ferment, at room temperature, to your desired level, making sure to burp every day; refrigerate--drastically slowing, but not eliminating second fermentation. The minor detail that I'm interested in, is that I've been burping them daily, and usually 3-5 days after I start getting audible gas, I burp them one last time, so that they don't burst, …

Ginger Beer Not Carbonated

I have made ginger beer from my own "ginger bug" but did not get much carbonation. I think I put it in the refrigerator too soon, so I took one bottle out, let it sit for 2 days and VIOLA, carbonation is perfect. Question: Will my ginger beer still be okay (safe) for drinking if I take the bottles out of the refrigerator, let them sit for a couple days and then put them back in the refrigerator?
