Is there any way to override the Sprint DNS server(s) used by default on the 3G connection of an HTC Evo running Froyo without root access? The reason I want to do this is because some sites are able to resolve when I'm using OpenDNS or Google DNS while connected via WiFi at home, but when I'm on 3G, the same sites come up as page not found, so the easiest culprit to blame is DNS.
What is the maximum class (e.g., 2,4,6,8,10) supported of microSD card supported by the HTC EVO? I noticed an improvement in performance when upgrading from the Class 2 to a faster card on my Hero. I don't want to pay extra for performance that won't benefit my EVO. HTC and Sprint have not included this information in their specs and I can't find it elsewhere. Either I'm not understading something fundamental about SD classes or it's not published where I'm …
I have HTC's people widget on one of my home screens. I like its functionality but sometimes when I touch a contact, another one gets selected. A completely different contact gets the green selection box and it starts to call them. With my luck this usually results in calling my parents at some ungodly hour. I've used touch visualizers to see if that area of my touch screen is having problems but all looks fine. The people widget is the …
I have an Evo running with very default settings. How can I force the home screen (Which I believe to be running Sense UI if I'm not confused) to be in landscape format. I use my kickstand all the time, and it's a pain to tilt my head to look at the home screen.
According to JuicePlotter, my HTC Evo's 3G radio is always on when the screen is on -- even when doing absolutely nothing. I tested this by turning the brightness down to 1 and opening the settings menu and just leaving it there. The screen was set to never shut off. I got pretty significant battery drain. I ask because I want to improve my battery life when reading downloaded books with the Kindle app. It seems to me that the …
I've noticed that when actively downloading a lot of data, the Wi-Fi radio uses much less power than the 3G radio. However, when the phone is not being used much, the 3G radio will sleep but the Wi-Fi radio will not. This actually means that if I leave Wi-Fi on, my battery will drain about 2.5 times faster than if I were using 3G. Is there a way to get the best of both worlds? When in range of a …
I've seen references to this posted elsewhere, but never a solution. I'd like to only sync the "my contacts" group of contacts from my gmail (really google apps, but should work the same) account, rather than "all contacts". I can not find an option to change this. Any suggestions?
I have an HTC Evo with contacts that were imported by Sprint from my old Palm Centro. On the Centro, I could have contacts with no name but a business/organization, and the contact list would use that as the display, and I could search on that field. (Handy for calling pizza restaurants!) On my new Android device, that sort of contact shows up as "Unknown", and the Organization name can't be searched. Is there a way to get the Android …
I have always-on mobile data set to off most of the time to conserve battery, but I find the need to switch it on every once in a while - using Pandora, the odd large file to/from Dropbox, etc. The question: Can I make an easy on/off icon (much like the WiFi or 4G widgets preloaded by HTC) so I don't have to go through the settings menu every time? App recs or how-tos appreciated. I've got an Evo with …
I've read mixed reports online about which radio uses more power -- 3G or 4G. Has anyone done any semi-scientific tests that would answer this question? When constantly downloading data over the same period of time, which uses more battery (battery drain per second of download)? When downloading the same amount of data, which uses more battery (battery drain per KB)? Do both radios sleep with the same consistency? Do they use the same amount of power when sleeping or …
Is there any way to change or set the source for the pictures on the People Widget when you have linked contacts? Example: I have my wife as one of my contacts. I have her Facebook/Twitter accounts linked to my entries for my GMail and Exchange contacts. I've added a picture taken by the on phone camera to the Exchange contact entry but the widget uses her Facebook profile picture as the display picture. Any way to override this behavior?
After a week's worth of troubleshooting, I have discovered that enabling any sort of account synchronization for "Facebook for HTC Sense" will cause the phone to randomly soft-reboot. I believe this happens if either "Sync live feed" or "Sync contacts" is checked in "Accounts & sync". I would like to have my facebook feed available to the facebook widget and I like having my contacts' pictures automatically updated when they change their profile picture. However, the random reboots are extremely …
